BRADBURY BOOKS – ABOUT US

Bradbury Books has been in operation since 1993. We buy and sell new and used books and ephemera related to magic (conjuring), circus, carnivals and the allied arts and entertainments. Among our specialties are books and ephemera related to magic history, biography and bibliography.

We are a home-based mail-order business in Kansas City, MO and do not operate a store front or show room. In addition to maintaining this website, we issue  a weekly "reverse auction" containing new and used books, DVDs, tricks, ephemera, etc. We call it a reverse auction because the prices go down by approximately 10% each week an item remains on the list. While there are occasional rare, seldom seen or even highly collectible books that show up on our weekly list, it is primarily a good source for those new to magic and/or working professionals or hobbyists still actively building their collections to fill holes and further develop their collections. The source for nearly all of our books and materials are from retiring magicians or those wanting to scale back on their collections, but keep the materials within the magic community--thus the reasonable pricing. By the way, the shop to the left isn't really ours, but all too often we feel like that's how much inventory we have, so do help us by taking a look below and/or ordering from one of our emailed lists.

We also send out periodic sale lists featuring books priced as low as $4.00 or $5.00 based on the number purchased. These lists cover all sorts of topics related to magic and allied arts--including books, magazines, advertising ephemera, instructon sheets, etc. To be added to our weekly Reverse Auction or less frequent Sale lists just e-mail us and we will be happy to add your name. We generally quote and ship via U.S.P.S. media mail (although we are also happy to quote and provide priority mail shiping if you prefer). We accept personal checks or PayPal as forms of payment.  Complete details on ordering and payment information is available at the end of the list. We look forward to hearing from you.

Reverse Auction

Greetings! Here is the Reverse Auction on a Monday evening, February 22, 2021! This week we have newly listed books on magic, magic history, lots of small booklets, ephemera, magazines, and, of course, a lot of great items at increasingly affordable prices—many as low as $4, $5 or $6 each. We have made it easy for you to spot the items that are newly listed. If you see something of interest, verify availability with an email query to us and we will respond with the total cost including shipping at standard rates (or priority, if requested). We always respond to all queries in the order in which they are received and hope to be back in touch with everyone by noon tomorrow. Zip codes are helpful and if outside the U.S., please include where you want it shipped.

As always, we "GUARANTEE YOUR PURCHASE”—if you want to return an item for any reason, we offer a full refund of the purchase price.  Payment options and other details are at the end of the listing. And now, here’s this week’s list:

Query first to confirm availability and reserve one or more items.  Most items are single copies and are available subject to prior sale.  We will ship as soon as we receive your personal check or money order; or you can pay via PayPal <http://www.PayPal.com> if you prefer.  Missouri customers must add 8.6% sales tax.  Our address information--including our web site where many `more books and other materials can be found--is listed below.

A word about shipping: We typically ship smaller packages (under a couple of inches thick) in bubble padded envelopes and use double-bubble on the ends and edges and/or often use cardboard reinforcement on ends and edges inside a padded envelope—although we have seldom had problems, it seems that more issues are being reported. So, we will start using boxes for individual books or packets of materials that are more than 2.5 – 3 inches thick. This is a little more expensive, but we value your business and want to try to ensure that your materials are received in the same shape they were in when left our store. If you have consistent problems with rough treatment by your local sorting center or carrier, let us know and we will make special efforts to give you secure packaging. If the delivery time is an issue of concern for you, we are always happy to quote and send via “Priority Mail” at the going rate for that service.

If you are not receiving this weekly "reverse auction" directly, but would like to do so, just drop us a note in that regard and we will take care of it.

Thanks for your interest!

Bargain Books/Media

What follows are THREE SEPARATE LISTS--the first one is a list of paperback book titles--both regular size (12mo & 8vo) and large size (4to) paperbacks and every now and then a hardbound book, DVD, audio, video cassette, or even a prop or trick in the mix.  Generally all are in “Good” to “As New” condition—a few of the books are “ex library” and when that’s the case we’ll let you know.  (We do have multiple copies of many of these items and will always select and send the best copy available). Not all of the books are technically magic books, but all have been acquired along with magic collections I’ve purchased—so there may or may not be a magic connection. All items on this list are priced at $6.00 each OR order four or more and they go for $5.00 each.  (If you order four or more, you get the $5.00 price, regardless of how many we can supply.)

As always, please email your wants to confirm availability and to receive shipping and payment options.  Due to the volume of responses we usually receive after putting out a list like this, it sometimes takes 24-48 hours to get back to you, but we do reply to all queries and reserve items in the order in which they are received.  All items are listed as available subject to prior sale.

******** START OF LIST NO. 2  - MAINLY LARGE FORMAT BOOKS OR BOOKLETS, MAGAZINES AND EPHEMERA **************************

This is a list of either paper-bound, perfect bound, saddle stapled, or side or corner stapled softbound books, booklets and manuscripts—plus a small sampling of instruction sheets (sometimes with the gimmicks, fekes, etc.), assorted ephemera, and an occasional magazine or clip with a relevant article or small magazine lot.  This is also the “resting place” (until you buy them) of many complete volumes of popular magic magazines—GENII, NEW TOPS, MAGIC, MAGIGRAM, etc—and all at the same bargain price.  All items are 4to (approximately 10-12” tall) and generally all are in “fairly good” to “as new” condition--a few “ex library” copies are mixed in and when that’s the case we’ll let you know.  (We do have multiple copies of some of these titles and will always select and send the best copy available).  All are 4to (approximately 10-12” tall) and generally all are in “fairly good” to “as new” condition--a few “ex library” copies are mixed in and when that’s the case we’ll let you know.  (We do have multiple copies of some of these titles and will always select and send the best copy available).  All items are priced at $6.00 each OR order four to nine and get them for $5.00 each OR, for the best deal, order 10 or more and get them at only $4.00 each.  (You get the price for however many you order--even if we can’t fill your entire order.)

As always, please email your wants to confirm availability and to receive shipping and payment options.  Due to the volume of responses we usually receive after putting out a list like this, it sometimes takes us 24-48 hours to get back to you, but we do reply to all queries and reserve items in the order in which they are received.  All items are listed as available subject to prior sale.

Feel free to forward this list to anyone else who may be interested. Order information is at the end of the list.

***************START OF LIST NO. 3 - MAINLY SMALL FORMAT BOOKS OR BOOKLETS*********************

This is a list of small format softbound books–these are smaller sized (8vo–i.e. less than 10” tall–or smaller) perfect bound, saddle stapled or side stapled booklets in wraps.  Also included are catalogssome,  ephemera and occasional small packet or other tricks. All are generally in “good” (which means average used book condition) to “as new” condition—some may have former owners names, stickers, small markings, etc., but condition is otherwise typically good and we have multiple copies of many, so we will always send the best copy available. (If there are major defects, we will let you know.)  This list is priced at $6.00 each–OR order four to nine titles and you get them for $5.00 each–OR FOR THE BEST BARGAIN, order 10 or more (regardless of how many we can provide) and pay only $4.00 each. FYI, items that appear in BOLD are among some of the newest items added to the list.

Here’s what we have available now—more will be coming soon.

Magic Magazines

This section contains magazines and periodicals related to magic (conjuring)--plus allied arts and a few strays. The numbers (Mxxxx or Mxxxxx) and the descriptions are from the two landmark bibliographies of conjuring periodicals published in the twentieth century: James B. Alfredson and George L. Daily's A BIBLIOGRAPHY OF CONJURING PERIODICALS IN ENGLISH: 1791 - 1983. (York, PA, Magicana for Collectors, 1986); and a companion and continuation of that work, Father Stephen A. Fernandes' MAGIC MAGAZINES OF THE SECOND MILLENNIUM: A BIBLIOGRAPHY OF ENGLISH-LANGUAGE CONJURING PERIODICALS, AUGUST 1791 - 1 JANUARY 2000. (Hyannis, MA, Fr. Stephen A. Fernandes, 2000). On the infrequent occasions when a new conjuring periodical is found and listed, whether it is within the scope of these two publications or it commenced publication after 01/01/00, it will be be preceded by an "N" and follow the five-digit numbering system used by Fernandes. Any periodical titles which fall outside the scope of these two bibliographies, but which are included in this list as a matter of convenience (and because I have issues for sale) will be be preceeded by an "O" and likewise parrot the five-digit numbering system used by Fernandes. The "Nxxxx", "Nxxxxx" and "Oxxxxx" entries are merely included as a matter of convenience for alphabetizing within this listing and are not intended to approach the scholarship of mssrs. Alfredson, Daily and Fernandes.
